What are they?
Purchase frauds are when a fraudster sells you goods or services that you do not receive. It is a type of authorised push payment fraud (APP fraud) or bank transfer fraud. We see a huge range of fake products or services offered by fraudsters such as vehicles, rental properties, building work or valuable items such as jewellery.
How do people come across purchase frauds?
How people end up the victim of a purchase fraud varies hugely. Often fraudmers will create adverts on Ebay, Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace or other legitimate platforms. However, sometimes the fraudmer will even meet you in person (such as builder frauds) so you always have to be vigilant.

If your bank contacts you directly with an offer let us know as soon as possible so that we can check that the amount is correct. We'll speak to your bank to confirm whether the offer is appropriate. Our fee becomes payable once your bank agrees to refund you.
